September 15, 2010 Update

The Virginia Key Master Plan was approved by a 5-0 vote by the Miami City Commission. The plan places the Marine Stadium as its key feature. Although there is no financing tied to the plan, it is an important step forward and allows us to move on to implementation.

Friends of Marine Stadium has now begun working with the City of Miami to secure funding. The Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) Commission, an independent taxing district, has approved $150,000 for a design, analysis and permit study for the sea wall and seaside pilings of the Marine Stadium. This must be matched by another source. If this phase moves forward successfully, the City can re-apply to the FIND Commission to fund the actual construction work for the pilings and seawall.

The Marine Stadium continues to get great press-there is a feature length article in Modern Magazine, and a web story prepared by Architectural Record.

Due to the interest in graffiti at the Stadium, we are now setting up a separate section of the web site to showcase the work of photographers who have documented it.
